WEEK 2: Buckle up, Wildcats!

DAY 6

7 August 2023

Hello, everyone! The second week of my practicum journey has kicked off, and it's shaping up to be an intriguing adventure. Last week was fantastic, and I can't wait to see what unfolds next.

I started my day earlier than usual, a tad restless due to a bothersome sore throat. But not to worry; I've got some trusty medicine to nurse me back to health. The first thing on my agenda was a COVID test, and the good news is that it came back negative. However, since my throat was acting up, I decided to take precautions and don a mask.

Our day commenced with the weekly assembly, and then it was off to the canteen for breakfast. Let me tell you, the food there is simply delightful. As a self-proclaimed foodie, I'm already a fan. The flavors and variety made for a pleasant morning treat.

The main task for the day was invigilating the exams, as it's only the second week of examinations. During my free time in the teacher's room, I engaged in some research and revision, eager to be well-prepared for my upcoming teaching sessions. I jotted down notes and ideas, eager to share knowledge with my students.

I'm looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that this week brings. As for my health, I'm optimistic that it will improve soon. Stay tuned for more updates on my journey.

DAY 7

8 August 2023

Hey there! Today marked a break from the ordinary, thanks to some sweltering weather. In response, we were given permission to wear t-shirts to school. With the heat on, we commenced the day with a hearty breakfast, preparing for a noteworthy event tomorrow: a meeting gathering all the teachers. It's all about "Bulan Kebangsaan dan Hari Malaysia," and the mix of excitement and nervousness is quite palpable.

Now, back to today. Apart from the heat, it was business as usual. I filled in for Sir Nordin, teaching an English relief class to Form 5 students in Neutron. It was a bit surprising that some of them struggled with past and present tenses. But, remembering the GPK's advice, I carried out a quick revision, rewarding them with candy for their efforts.

The highlight? A student came up afterward, expressing his gratitude for the lesson that helped him in his essay. These moments motivate me to keep teaching and inspire my own future students. Stay tuned for more tales from my journey!

DAY 8

9 August 2023

Hello, Wednesday! Despite my nagging sore throat, I powered through the day, determined to be there for myself. It turned out to be a packed day with numerous relief classes, but it also brought the chance to make two new friends, Kak Hanum and Kak Hannah, both are science teachers. As I helped Kak Hanum staple science examination papers, they graciously shared their school experiences and offered valuable tips on handling students. An interesting tidbit: Kak Hannah mentioned our school had a bit of a spooky aura! 👻

After wrapping up my paper-stapling duties, I assisted Kak Hanum in transporting the papers to the examination room before heading to my relief class. In the afternoon, at 1.10 PM, I attended a meeting in the auditorium, focusing on the upcoming "Sambutan Bulan Kebangsaan dan Hari Malaysia" event. The highlight of the meeting was our school's plan for Merdeka celebrations. We were assigned the documentation task for the event, alongside the school counsellor, Encik Amri.

During the meeting, we learned there would be three Merdeka events. The first one is the opening ceremony, where we all need to don blue attire. The second is the Merdeka Threshold Celebration, requiring red outfits, and finally, the closing ceremony for Bulan Kemerdekaan, where we'll proudly sport yellow.

The meeting ended earlier than expected, giving us a timely departure back home. After school, my friend Zulfa and I headed to the ECO Shop at AEON Maluri to stock up on supplies for ourselves and some rewards for the students. As is our Wednesday tradition, we wrapped up the day with a delightful cup of llaollao.

Now, it's time to savour my well-deserved llaollao treat!

DAY 9

10 August 2023

Today marked the end of our school week, and it came with a surprising announcement from the GPK. We learned that a replacement leave had been scheduled for tomorrow, the 12th of August, due to the elections. The replacement day is set for September 23, 2023. It was a welcomed piece of news that meant a break from the usual school routine.

As for today, while there wasn't much on the agenda, I had an unexpected adventure trying to find my class. Little did I know that the classes had been rearranged and relocated. I ended up at the wrong place initially. Fortunately, I arrived early, allowing me time to navigate to the new classroom locations and distribute the exam papers accordingly.

DAY 10

11 August 2023

Today, there were no school obligations as I made my way back to my hometown in Kemaman, Terengganu. The reason for this little getaway was a significant one, which was the election. It was time to fulfil my civic duty and exercise my right to vote. So, with a sense of responsibility and anticipation, I embarked on this journey, leaving behind the school routine for a while. Happy holidays, everyone!
