WEEK 8: Sparkling Surprises

DAY 36

18 September 2023

Monday blues hit again as I kicked off Week 8 with the school assembly. Following the assembly, my schedule called for a class with 4 Beta, but a twist of events unfolded. My mentor wanted to review their previous exam answers, so she stepped in to handle the class while I assisted in this session. It was a different yet insightful start to the day.

After school, my role shifted to observer mode. I divided my attention between the school band and my choral speaking team, both diligently preparing for their upcoming performances on October 2nd. The dedication and hard work of these students gave me confidence that their performances would shine.

Once I had finished with these students, it was time for a quick shopping trip to AEON Maluri. I needed to gather some items to create a hamper, a special surprise for my students, in preparation for their roleplay session next Wednesday. I planned to present this hamper to the best-performing group, adding an extra layer of motivation and excitement to their roleplay session.

Week 8 began with a mix of observation, preparation, and planning, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the rest of the week, filled with more engaging experiences and moments with my students. Here's to a productive and rewarding week ahead!

DAY 37

19 September 2023

Tuesday rolled in, and my day kicked off with a fantastic class with 3 Kosmik. Today's lesson was all about exploring feelings and emotions, and it was an absolute blast. We dove into a listening test to gauge their ability to identify emotions based on dialogue. The highlight of our class, however, was the charades activity. Watching the students act out various emotions was a riot of laughter and learning, making the lesson truly enjoyable.

Given that it's Language Week, we were entrusted with organizing a word search competition for all students. Later in the evening, a pleasant surprise awaited us. We learned that we were tasked with organizing a "Say It Right" competition during the assembly scheduled for tomorrow. In a creative flurry, we crafted sentences, carefully inscribing them on mahjong paper. But the surprise didn't stop there. As I added some drawings to enhance the visual appeal of our sentences, I discovered an unexpected talent for drawing that I hadn't known I possessed. It's remarkable how a day can unfold with such surprises.

Tuesday was filled with emotions, from the joy of learning about feelings to the surprise of discovering hidden talents. I can't wait to see how the rest of the week unfolds, brimming with excitement and learning experiences. Until next time, stay tuned for more adventures! 😄

DAY 38

20 September 2023

Today was the day we eagerly conducted the "Say It Right" competition during the school assembly. It was a fascinating experience to witness how easily some words can be mispronounced, and the competition shed light on the importance of clear and accurate pronunciation. Fortunately, everything went off without a hitch, and we even received a round of applause from the English teacher, which added a sense of accomplishment to the day.

With just one class period with 3 Kosmik today, I engaged them in the English week's word search competition. For my Form 4 students, today was the much-anticipated day for their roleplay. I couldn't contain my excitement to witness their hard work come to life. However, fate had other plans in store. Our lesson had to be postponed due to a surprise fire drill at the school. Although I couldn't see them perform right away, the experience of watching the fire drill session was remarkable and served as a valuable reminder of the importance of safety and preparedness.

DAY 39

21 September 2023

It was an intriguing and satisfying day on Thursday since I finally got to see my students' diligent effort come to life through their roleplay presentations. It was incredibly touching to witness their passion and commitment come through in their performances. A noteworthy feature of the day was the apparent sense of camaraderie and cooperation among the pupils. They made the day even more memorable by voluntarily offering to help their friends when needed. This promoted a sense of solidarity and teamwork.

Although every group gave an amazing performance, there can only be one victor, as the saying goes. With their superb retelling of the tale, Team "A Poison Tree" distinguished themselves and took home the rightful title of victors.

Moments like these help me to remember why I enjoy being a teacher. observing my students' development, inventiveness, and friendship. I'm eager to see what other triumphs and surprises are ahead of us as the week comes to an end. 😄 Here's to more days full of learning and inspiration!

DAY 40

22 September 2023

Today was a relatively quiet day for me, but it brought some unexpected news: my mentor informed me that she would be observing my class next Monday. The prospect of being observed by the discipline teacher, who has a reputation for looking rather stern, filled me with a mix of fear and nervousness. However, I'm determined to do my best to impress and learn from her guidance.

As the day progressed, Friday seemed to slip away quickly. I spent my time preparing for my upcoming lessons and gathering materials for the observation. The anticipation of the upcoming week kept me focused, and I'm eager to demonstrate what I've learned and how I've grown as a teacher.

Tomorrow holds the promise of a replacement school day and "gotong royong madani". It's a testament to the varied experiences that come with teaching. I look forward to the challenges and rewards that each new day brings to this exciting journey. See you tomorrow! 😄

EXTRA DAY: 23 September 2023

Gotong royong madani - While most people enjoy a day off on Saturdays, for us teachers, it often means an extra day at school. Today was one of those Saturdays, and my role was to serve as the assistant teacher for 3UV.

Our mission for the day was all about cleaning and decorating the classroom. It was an opportunity for both teachers and students to come together and create a more inspiring and inviting learning environment. The sense of teamwork and camaraderie during these activities is always heartwarming, and it reinforces the strong sense of community that exists in the school.

As I worked alongside the students, it was a reminder of the impact we can have on their lives beyond the curriculum. Days like these are a testament to the importance of not just teaching subjects but also nurturing a supportive and positive educational atmosphere.

Even on a Saturday, the spirit of service and the joy of seeing students thrive made it a rewarding day. I look forward to more moments like this in the weeks and months ahead. Until then, enjoy your weekend, even when you only have one more day! 😄
